Overview

At SSOE, we design and build the future for our clients, colleagues, and communities. We design places for people to heal, learn, govern, and work. Our clients range from important community institutions to companies in both the private and public sectors—including Fortune US 100 corporations that are leading the nation’s innovation economy.

You will be instrumental in the detailed mechanical HVAC engineering design for a diverse array of building projects including transportation hubs, aviation facilities, educational institutions, corporate campuses, healthcare environments, restaurants, and hospitality venues. Your role involves performing precise HVAC load calculations compliant with ASHRAE standards (including ASHRAE 90.1 and ASHRAE 62.1), referencing and applying International Mechanical Code (IMC) requirements, NFPA fire protection standards, and NEC electrical considerations for HVAC systems design.

AI and Innovation

As part of our commitment to innovation, all team members will be trained on Microsoft Copilot and empowered to use it as a core tool in their everyday work.

Responsibilities

Our Mechanical Engineer will employ advanced Revit modeling techniques to develop, coordinate, and validate 3D HVAC systems layouts, ensuring seamless integration of mechanical components with architectural and structural disciplines.

Working closely with project managers, discipline leads, and client representatives, you will lead HVAC design reviews and rigorous quality gate checkpoints that support risk mitigation and compliance with safety protocols throughout all design phases. Your responsibilities span schematic design, detailed design development, construction documentation, and construction administration, maintaining stringent change control processes and proactively identifying constructability issues in collaboration with contractors and vendors.

  • Perform detailed heating and cooling load calculations and psychrometric analyses using recognized methodologies to size equipment accurately and optimize energy consumption, adhering to sustainable design principles and energy codes including ASHRAE 90.1.
  • Develop and maintain detailed BIM models in Revit, producing HVAC layouts, ductwork, piping, and equipment placement and interfacing with MEP and structural disciplines to resolve clashes and coordination issues using clash detection tools.
  • Collaborate directly with multi-disciplinary design teams, including electrical, plumbing, controls, process, industrial, and structural engineers, to deliver integrated solutions that align with project schedules, budgets, and client requirements.
  • Provide design input and technical support during all phases—from concept and schematic design, through design development and construction documents, to construction administration and startup phases.
  • Lead or participate in internal design reviews and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes, ensuring design integrity, code compliance, and risk mitigation for HVAC systems across multi-location office teams and remote collaborators.
  • Mentor junior engineers and coordinate cross-office collaboration to uphold the firm’s culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
  • Utilize industry-standard HVAC analysis software and spreadsheet calculation tools, supplementing BIM data for robustness in design validation.
  • Stay current with changes to relevant codes, standards, and emerging best practices in HVAC design, preparing engineers’ design packages accordingly.

Qualifications

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related.
  • Minimum of nine years’ professional mechanical engineering experience focusing on HVAC design for buildings within transportation, aviation, education (primary and university), corporate, healthcare, hospitality, and restaurant sectors.
  • Thorough knowledge of International Mechanical Code (IMC), NFPA standards for fire and life safety (e.g., NFPA 90A), National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements related to HVAC electrical systems, and ASHRAE standards including 90.1 (energy efficiency) and 62.1 (ventilation).
  • Proficiency in Revit BIM software for HVAC systems modeling, with demonstrated ability to produce and manage 3D design documentation in multi-discipline environments.
  • Proven experience performing load calculations and system selections validated via recognized engineering calculation methods including psychrometric charts and energy modeling correlations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate fluently and professionally in English, both written and verbal, including technical correspondence, client interactions, and team collaboration.
  • Experience working within rigorous quality assurance workflows, including design reviews, coordination meetings, and construction administration.
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers and technical staff, fostering knowledge transfer and technical rigor within the team.

What We Bring:

  • Superior benefits such as Major and Minor medical expenses insurance, Dental and Visual insurance (Family Plan), Life insurance, 20 Days for Christmas Bonus, Food Coupons and others.
