Overview

SSOE is hiring for a seasoned Machine Designer to join our growing Glass/Glass Manufacturing team. We are seeking an experienced Designer with strong AutoCAD/Inventor skills, expertise in machine and material handling equipment, and a drive for innovation. Available locations in León, Gto. and Chihuahua, Chih.

This role places you at the forefront of mechanical machine design within complex industrial projects, focusing on the conceptualization and detailed engineering of material handling equipment and associated mechanical systems. You will develop and validate machine models and fabrication weldments using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, incorporating precision tolerance stacks, load calculations, and stress analysis aligned with ASME standards and ASTM material specifications. Coordinating closely with project managers, discipline leads, controls engineers, and client stakeholders, you will ensure design integrity from initial feasibility through construction package turnover. Your work directly influences constructability, procurement specifications, and risk mitigation strategies, particularly related to automation equipment integration and ductwork system interfaces governed by NFPA and AWS welding codes. You will regularly lead design reviews, coordinate interdisciplinary change control processes, and maintain compliance with robust safety protocols throughout all project phases, including site walks and commissioning support.

The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing. Responsibilities include those required to deliver quality service on schedule and within budget in a team environment.

  • Lead the mechanical design of machine systems and material handling equipment involving conveyors, robotic arms, sorting systems, and custom fabrication weldments, ensuring compliance with relevant codes such as ASME BTH-1 for below-the-hook lifting devices and AWS D1.1 structural welding.
  • Develop 3D machine models and detailed fabrication drawings in Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks, applying accurate GD&T standards to guide manufacturing precision.
  • Perform structural and mechanical calculations including load analysis, factor of safety evaluations, and dynamic force simulations to validate design robustness under operational conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with automation engineers to integrate control and actuator components, aligning mechanical designs with control logic and electrical interfaces.
  • Interface directly with project management and clients to clarify design requirements, present progress updates, and incorporate feedback from engineering review gates.
  • Manage and document all design changes through rigorous change control workflows, including impact assessment on cost, schedule, and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare and review technical submittals, RFIs, and vendor data sheets to verify specification conformance and support procurement.
  • Support QA/QC processes by developing inspection criteria for weld quality and dimensional verification consistent with AWS and ISO 3834 standards.
  • Conduct regular site visits to coordinate with contractors during fabrication and installation phases, ensuring adherence to design intent and safety requirements.
  • Mentor junior designers on best practices related to 3D CAD modeling, material selection, and welding preparation, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
  • Participate in startup and commissioning activities, providing mechanical troubleshooting expertise, aligning as-built conditions with design documents, and facilitating smooth operational turnover.
  • Contribute to method development for modular design approaches and standardization of mechanical assemblies to reduce fabrication turnaround and improve repeatability.
  • Ensure all mechanical designs comply with company Quality Management System protocols, environmental regulations, and client safety standards throughout project lifecycle stages
