SSOE Group is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Structural Engineering team. This senior-level position focuses on the design and execution of diverse commercial projects in the United States, such as K-12 schools, corporate buildings, and retail facilities. As a Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for complex structural evaluations, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams, and providing technical leadership from concept to completion. This is an opportunity to be part of significant project scopes within a leading AEC firm, ensuring all designs meet the highest standards of safety, functionality, and innovation.

Responsibilities

The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing. Responsibilities include those required to deliver quality service on schedule and within budget in a team environment.

  • Plans and conducts complex engineering work requiring independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard and advanced structural design methods.
  • Performs detailed structural analysis and design for commercial projects, including K-12, corporate, and retail facilities, ensuring compliance with applicable US building codes (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC).
  • Develops and reviews structural drawings, calculations, and specifications using CADD and BIM platforms (e.g., Revit Structure, AutoCAD).
  • Devises innovative approaches and solutions to structural challenges, communicating design changes effectively to the project team.
  • Executes complex assignments with general direction toward expected results, exercising sound engineering judgment to resolve technical issues independently.
  • Collaborates with senior technical staff on highly complex or unusual structural problems and coordinates approval of proposed design solutions along with the department manager and other senior enigneers.
  • Develops engineering concepts and presentations.
  • Coordinates work with other disciplines.
  • Integrates emerging design methods, building codes, and AEC industry technologies into daily workflows to maintain the company competitive edge.
  • Performs most assignments with general direction toward expected results, exercising sound engineering judgment to resolve technical issues independently.
  • Supervise and mentors less experienced engineers and designers, ensuring accuracy and code compliance through rigorous review of drawings and calculations.
  • Coordinates structural scope and deliverables with other disciplines (civil, MEP, architectural) to ensure design integration and project schedule adherence.
  • Prepares and contribute to project specifications and cost estimates, ensuring alignment with project scope and budget.
  • Stays current on evolving structural design methods, building codes, industry standards, and emerging technologies relevant to commercial construction in the US market.

 

Qualifications

What You Will Bring:

 

  • Bachelor´s degree in Civil engineering, with a structural emphasis (Cedula and Titulo is a must requirement).
  • Master degree in structural engineering (Preferred). 
  • Ten to twelve (10 - 12) direct years of experience in same activities / responsabilities.
  • Experience with previous commercial projects such as Education, Government, Higher Education, Retail.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD, or similar.
  • Experience with building codes and standards such as: IBC, ASCE 7, ASIC, ACI (an others as applicable).
  • Working knowledge of CADD.
  • Advanced English.

 

Desirable Skills: 

 

  • Experience with structural work on mid- to large-size projects.
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows and multi-discipline model coordination.
