The Fire Protection Designer 4 is an experienced technical design professional responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering fire protection system designs for multidisciplinary projects. This role is recognized as a senior technical designer and BIM resource capable of independently developing complex fire protection designs, leading BIM coordination efforts, mentoring junior staff, and supporting multidisciplinary project delivery from concept through construction

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop, maintain, and coordinate fire protection system designs and BIM models utilizing Revit for industrial, commercial, manufacturing, healthcare, and mission-critical facilities in accordance with project and company standards.
  • Prepare fire protection construction documents including drawings, details, schedules, calculations, and supporting project documentation.
  • Design and coordinate automatic sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, fire pumps, water storage tanks, fire hydrants, underground fire water distribution systems, and associated fire protection discipline or related.
  • Create and modify Revit families, templates, schedules, views, isometrics, worksets, print sets, and model content to support project delivery.
  • Perform multidisciplinary BIM coordination, clash detection, and clash resolution with Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Process disciplines.
  • Apply NFPA standards, FM Global Data Sheets, client requirements, and local regulations to project designs.
  • Develop pipe routing layouts, riser diagrams, hanger details, equipment layouts, and system schedules.
  • Review drawings, BIM models, and deliverables for quality, constructability, completeness, coordination, and code compliance.
  • Develops an understanding of other discipline's needs and requirements and relates them to own discipline and total project scope.
  • Minimum experience using fire protection design and calc software such as HydraCAD, HydraCALC, or similar applications.
  • Coordinate and review work performed by junior designers and provide technical guidance and mentoring.
  • Participate in client meetings, project coordination meetings, site visits, and field investigations as required.
  • Support project execution by identifying design issues, recommending solutions, and assisting with field-related questions during construction. Maintain project documentation and model information within Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and company file management standards.
  • May serve as Lead Designer or Job Captain on single-discipline assignments and support project leadership activities
  • May conduct site visits, field surveys and existing condition assessments.
  • May write portions of specifications and assist in preparing design and construction cost estimates.
  • Job may require use of AI or similar digital technology to perform the job function

 

Qualifications

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor´s degree as Mechanical, Electromechanical engineering or related discipline. Bachelor´s degree in engineering with emphasis in Mechanical design / fire protection design.
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience as a Fire Protection Designer, Design Drafter, or in a closely related mechanical design role.
  • Working knowledge of basic fire protection design principles, including automatic sprinkler and standpipe systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable fire protection codes and standards, including relevant NFPA standards, building codes, fire codes, and local authority requirements.
  • Ability to independently resolve design coordination and technical challenges
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering environments
  • Proficiency using computer-aided design and/or BIM software required for fire protection system design (AutoCAD and Revit).
  • Medium-High English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Travel required.
